The Housing Assistance Campaign
The Key Alliance is currently raising $1.5 million for the Housing Assistance Campaign that will bring in funds to help get the most vulnerable off the street as quickly as possible. These individuals have faced long periods of homelessness which has caused major health issues, addictions to surface, and increased jail time. By focusing on the chronically homeless first we can see an immediate drop in emergency room costs, shelter use, legal costs, and time spent by outreach workers. Using the Housing First Model, we will put the chronically homeless into housing and provide them with intensive support services by a case manager to help them stabilize their physical and mental health, and find income sources. The cost to leave a chronically homeless person on the street averages $35,000 a year. The cost to put this person in housing with support costs an average of $17,000. We need funds to cover affordable rent for 6 to 12 months, deposits on utilities, and case management by our agency partners.
