Project Homeless Connect-December 9, 2009

Project Homeless Connect is a one-day, one stop event to provide people experiencing homelessness with access to a broad range of services, including medical and foot care, dental screenings, legal services, employment assistance, pet care, food, shoes, and haircuts.  The event also helps participants contact lost families and obtain identification and applications for housing opportunities.  Last year, a collaboration of more than 50 service providers and 300 volunteers provided 5,500 services to 1,078 homeless individuals and families.  PHC makes a powerful impact on homeless people's lives by providing a wide range of assistance in one location, and by the outpouring of respect and hospitality from service providers and volunteers.  This year we plan to serve more homeless people, provide additional services, and use more than 500 volunteers at the Municipal Auditorium from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m..

Job Mentors

We are also looking for job mentors to work one-on-one with a formerly homeless individual in our Housing First Initiative. Mentors will be trained and will work closely with an individual on basic job skills and etiquette in the work place, will accompany the new employee to their first few days of work, and will be available to receive phone calls from the individual they are mentoring.

If you would like to volunteer for Project Homeless Connect or job mentoring for the homeless, please contact Mary Beth Schumacher, 615-252-8573 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Coming soon: A developing alliance with Hands On Nashville will bring us a partner that can coordinate and manage our volunteer needs. We are excited about this opportunity to work with Hands On Nashville, learn from their expertise, and be able to offer volunteer experiences at The Key Alliance that are rewarding. We will keep you posted on this development.
